George Swarth bookplate collection, circa 1450-1997.

Probably including over 15,000 bookplates, the collection is currently arranged in many groupings such as by subject of plate, place, ownership, previous collector, artist/designer, etc. Included is the second oldest known bookplate, a 15th century German manuscript, as well as specific collections of American presidents, authors, famous actors and actresses, royalty, etc. Also included are reference files and correspondence with dealers and collectors.
